LU2 ‘Leading up’,
A 2 day course, learning how to make a stained glass panel, using traditional lead strips (cames).  (In the same way that external windows are made, including church windows).  A panel is assembled by cutting lead strips to size, soldering joints and applying special putty, which also makes a panel weatherproof.
Of course a leaded panel does not have to be used only for external purposes and large panels can look beautiful within room divider and other applications.
The course covers:
  • Pre-course contact to help with design/ideas (there are also hundreds of patterns available to adapt)
  • Design guidance/considerations associated with leadwork
  • Selecting glass
  • Draughting and templating shapes
  • Cutting and shaping glass
  • Building up the leading structure
  • Assembling the panel (soldering, cementing and cleaning up)
  • Application of polish/finish

The course includes a wide selection of stained glass colours and textures, lead came, flux, solder and full use of all necessary tools.

The course includes a light lunch, refreshments and ‘aide memoire’ notes to take home.
